The Pension Funds Adjudicator has reported a 13% increase in complaints over the past financial year, with security guards being among the most affected. This rise is largely attributed to the implementation of the two-pot pension system in September 2024, which has exposed widespread employer non-compliance. According to Adjudicator Muvhango Lukhaimane’s 2024/25 annual report, nearly 44% of all complaints investigated and closed were related to employers failing to pay retirement fund contributions, while withdrawal benefit issues made up almost 39% of complaints received. Many employees only discovered these issues when attempting to access their benefits.
Concerns were raised about the Private Security Sector Provident Fund’s (PSSPF) limited capacity to monitor employer compliance and take corrective action when contributions are not paid. NBCPSS urges all employers in the private security sector to fulfil their pension obligations and safeguard the financial future of their workforce.
