NBCPSS- General Awareness Press Release

The long awaited National Bargaining Council for the Private Security Sector (“NBCPSS”) was registered by the Department of Labour on 21 June 2018 and resulted in the adoption of its Constitution. The registration of the NBCPSS formally allowed all relevant stakeholders, Labour and Registered Employer Organisations to commence with the mammoth task of regulating the terms and conditions of employees and the obligations of employers to ensure much needed compliance within the sector. The NBCPSS currently has 21 founding parties, including Organised Labour and Employer Organisations.

Organised Labour and Employer Organisations concluded a Main Collective Agreement (“MCA”) and the Levy Agreement under the auspices of the NBCPSS which was published on 20 February 2020 and the terms and conditions are enforced by the NBCPSS.

Compliance within the security sector as set out in the MCA are but not limited to provident fund membership, medical benefits and levy contributions. Inspectors have been appointed to conduct inspections with all security providers to ensure compliance through the necessary enforcement procedures and fines.

The NBCPSS is a statutory body created in terms of the relevant legislation and with the blessing of the Department of Labour to ensure that employers are held accountable in terms of the MCA and shall act without fear in doing so. All relevant provisions of any law within the Republic of South Africa are adhered to by the Council.

The NBCPSS can be contacted at 010 800-2321 for any enquiries
