The Northern Cape High Court has convicted Defensor Electronic Security Systems and its directors, Gert Renier Van Rooyen and Claudius Gerald Peterson, for fraud and contravention of PSIRA regulations. They unlawfully secured a security tender worth over R384 million without a valid PSIRA license or SARS compliance documents.
The company was fined R1.5 million, while the directors received six-year prison sentences (three years suspended) along with suspended fines. The ruling sends a strong message that non-compliance and fraudulent conduct in the private security sector will not be tolerated.
NBCPSS welcomes the judgment as it reinforces the importance of regulatory compliance, accountability, and ethical conduct within the industry.
